Berlin and Potsdam are just a short journey from Golm, so many scientists come to us. However, the Potsdam Science Park also offers a variety of housing opportunities. The Studentenwerk Potsdam rents furnished rooms, 1-room apartments and shared flats in four residential complexes to students. For those who want a little more comfort, there are fully equipped micro apartments in the Potsdam Science Park. To the south of the Park the private provider BaseCamp offers 263 furnished rooms and to the northeast The Twenty has more than 400 furnished apartments available. Both locations provide excellent opportunities to meet new people in the shared common rooms or at the BaseCamp roof terrace, cinema room or fitness room.
Parklife
At the Potsdam Science Park in Golm, research and a good life go hand in hand. We see ourselves as a lively location that offers an inspiring and innovative environment for all those who want to do research, study, start a business or invest here. Here at the science park, an emphasis on environment and sustainability creates a comfortable atmosphere where you can feel at home. Not in the middle of a crowded city, but rather on its outskirts, where the sky is wide, the air is clean, and the hills are green. You will find everything you need here for a good life, even if you do occasionally hear the frogs croaking in the wildlands next door.
Housing

Food
At the Potsdam Science Park, you have several options to enjoy lunch with colleagues at lunchtime. There are three canteens to choose from: at the Max Planck Institute for Colloids and Interfaces, the Fraunhofer Campus and the University of Potsdam Mensa Golm. All have beautiful outdoor spaces for use during good weather. The cafeteria in the library serves breakfast, snacks and drinks, which can also be enjoyed outside in good weather on wooden benches under the maple trees. In the reading café in Haus 14a, students cook vegan organic dishes during the lecture period. A few steps further on, in the village of Golm, the Landhotel Potsdam kitchen team cooks local dishes based on Slow Food principles.
Canteen on the Max Planck Campus
The Max Planck Campus canteen offers a wide variety of cuisine from Widynski & Roick. There are large and small delicacies for every palate made fresh every day.
Canteen on the Fraunhofer Campus
The canteen on the Fraunhofer campus is being operated by the Studentenwerk Potsdam on a transitional basis. From Monday to Friday, between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., there are two to three lunch dishes to choose from. Food is available on site, but also to take away. Students are allowed to bring their own containers – there is a surcharge of 30 cents for to-go packaging. Students can pay with their student ID, as they do in other dining halls. For all others, cash payment is possible.
University of Potsdam Mensa
The University Mensa is nestled under the archways on the Golm campus. The large terrace is a popular meeting place for eating and relaxing.
Old Station Golm
Golm’s old train station is currently being renovated and will hopefully soon house a new, cosy restaurant.
Shopping
A good quality of life depends on good local shopping opportunities. In the middle of the Science Park Potsdam, the REWE supermarket offers you everything you need for your daily life, from morning till night. This is where scientists, students and families from the surrounding residential areas meet. There is also a bakery in the market that offers fresh baked goods and coffee specialties all day long – even on Sunday mornings.
REWE Supermarket & Bakery THONKE
In addition to meals offered by the canteens or mensa, food and daily necessities can be purchased at the REWE supermarket and Bäckerei THONKE.
Fitness
Around the Park you can simply go jogging through fields and forests or visit the shores of the Großer Zernsee. But fitness enthusiasts can also get their money’s worth at the University of Potsdam fitness club goFIT. The goFIT is open seven days a week and offers modern equipment and high-quality support for students and employees of cooperating institutions. The Center for University Sports at the University of Potsdam also organizes a broad-ranging fitness program at the Golm campus – from bouldering and martial arts to Pilates and table tennis. The exercise experts of the Center for University Sports will even come to the workplace for express courses on relaxation, back strengthening and mobilization.
Childcare
At the Potsdam Science Park you can seamlessly combine work and family together. The bilingual Fröbel-Kindergarten “Springfrosch” (agile frog) sees itself as a “house of little researchers” and teaches even the youngest ones how exciting it is to go through the world with open eyes. For children from eight weeks to school entry age (6) there is plenty of space to play and learn in the small vegetable garden. Long opening hours make it easy for parents to pick up their children later if necessary. The University of Potsdam also organizes hourly mobile childcare for the families of students, doctoral students and university employees.
