Picking Your Own Fruit
The Potsdam Science Park is located in a traditional fruit-growing region. Throughout the summer, when the trees and bushes are full of cherries, plums or pears, the fruit farms in the region offer “self-picking”. A harvest day with friends and family in the countryside is a great – and rewarding – experience with colleagues or children.

"The Yellow Ribbon"
The yellow ribbon – help yourself to the fruit, it’s for free
If you see a fruit tree on the road with a yellow ribbon around its trunk, you can help yourself to the fruit without hesitation: The tree is explicitly marked for self-harvesting, because the owners do not manage to harvest the fruit themselves. The nationwide initiative originated in Baden-Württemberg and was launched to coincide with the „Germany saves food“ campaign week. „Local fruit is delicious and healthy and too good to rot,“ said Brandenburg’s State Secretary for Consumer Protection Anna Heyer-Stuffer at the launch of the campaign.
„Orchard meadows in particular now offer a wonderful opportunity to grow regional supplies or process them fresh.“ Among the participants in the action is the Langerwischer Obstgarten, at www.gelbesband-brandenburg.de interested parties can see where there are other sites for independent harvesting.
Another possibility is the website www.mundraub.org, which has existed for a long time and where, in addition to freely accessible fruit trees and orchards, herbs and nut bushes are also listed.
