CITY CYCLING 2026: Together for a Climate-Friendly Potsdam – Join the “Potsdam Science Park” Team!
We are committed! From June 2 to 22, 2026, we are turning our everyday journeys into a contribution towards a better world. The Potsdam Science Park is calling on all employees, students, residents, and partners: get on your bike and join us as part of the “Potsdam Science Park” team in the CITY CYCLING campaign!
Get Involved: Individually and as a Team
Every kilometre we cover by bicycle instead of by car — whether commuting to work, heading to university, or enjoying leisure time — counts towards climate protection and benefits our health at the same time. Join in and let’s show together what we can achieve! CITY CYCLING is a nationwide campaign run by the Climate Alliance, in which municipalities, companies, and institutions compete against one another in a friendly competition. Using the free CITY CYCLING app, participants can conveniently track their routes via GPS and log them directly to the Potsdam Science Park team — and thereby to the state capital Potsdam.
Every kilometre counts — whether it’s on your way to work, university, or during leisure time. And it’s worth joining: In addition to the positive impact on the environment and health, there are exciting prizes to be won at both local and national level. Furthermore, the collected data contributes to improving cycling infrastructure in Potsdam.

Strong Team Potsdam Science Park – Recap
In recent years, we have collectively covered kilometres together with a strong team. The most important thing for us is the team effort – whether 25 or 100 kilometres are cycled, we leave that entirely up to you and your everyday routes! Nevertheless, we are of course delighted when individuals additionally drive our large team “Potsdam Science Park” forward with their commitment, as in previous years – here is a brief look back:
CITY CYCLING 2025 in the Potsdam Science Park team
In the summer of 2025 (sorry, not ’69…), 61 participants in the “Potsdam Science Park” team were responsible for a team performance of over 18,000 kilometres and were able to save almost 3,000 kg of CO₂ compared to travelling by car. In the overall Potsdam rankings, we thereby achieved 8th place. Our winners in the overall rankings were in 1st place, once again, Dr Marcus Menger from Fraunhofer IZI-BB (with 51 rides and 1,348.60 km), in 2nd place Ernst-Günter Tauschke, a resident from Golm (with 56 rides and 1,180.20 km), and in 3rd place Bert Volkert from Fraunhofer IAP (with 26 rides and 1,179.70 km).

Here, Dr Marcus Menger from Fraunhofer IZI-BB came in 1st place for the first time (with 1,102.3 km), followed by Dr Hannes Hinneburg from Fraunhofer IAP with 1,000.7 km and Dr Marie Flechner from Fraunhofer IZI-BB with 683 km in 3rd place.
