Light for the biotope at the Mühlenpfuhl

A small biotope in the Potsdam Science Park is the Mühlenpfuhl in Golm. Almost inconspicuously hidden behind the roundabout is the small water oasis, which offers shelter to many microorganisms, frogs and numerous bird species. Mallards, moorhens and also little grebes can be observed here in the summer months.

In order to prevent silting up due to falling leaves and branches and so that the pond is not completely shaded, the biotope must be maintained accordingly. After the extensive tree pruning and excavations in the shore area by the tree and landscape maintenance staff on 24 February, spring can now come.

By the way, the Mühlenpfuhl was buried for a long time, the water was diverted to the Anglerkanal via a ground pipe. It was only with the construction work of the research institutes in Golm that the pond regained its importance. Among other things, the water that is pumped away under the station underpass now collects here. Excess water is diverted from here into the fishing canal and the melioration ditches in the Luch.
