Potsdam Science Park and Flämingo Startup Hub Sign Cooperation to Support Science-based Startups in Brandenburg

Potsdam Science Park and the Flämingo Startup Hub in Bad Belzig have signed a cooperation agreement, strengthening Brandenburg’s innovation ecosystem and creating new opportunities for science-based startups to launch, grow and scale in the region. The partnership connects Brandenburg’s largest science and research campus with one of the state’s six new Start-up Centres. Together, the partners aim to provide founders with seamless access to scientific expertise, entrepreneurial support, state-of-the-art infrastructure and strong regional and international networks.

As home to three Max Planck Institutes, two Fraunhofer Institutes and the University of Potsdam’s faculties of Human Sciences, Mathematics & Natural Sciences, and Health Sciences, Potsdam Science Park offers an ideal environment for research-driven companies in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, diagnostics, healthcare and advanced materials.

The collaboration builds on existing connections. Since the launch of Flämingo’s second accelerator cohort, the Fraunhofer IZI-BB and Fraunhofer ZDD, both located at Potsdam Science Park, have served as lead partners for Flämingo’s Health Cluster, supporting participating startups with scientific expertise and mentoring.

A key objective of the cooperation is to help startups not only establish their businesses in Brandenburg, but also remain and grow here over the long term. With flexible laboratory and office spaces, a vibrant innovation community and services such as German language courses for international founders, Potsdam Science Park offers attractive conditions for startups entering their next stage of development.

The partnership will also strengthen networking between founders, researchers and innovation partners. Flämingo will participate in future editions of the Potsdam Science Park Conference, creating further opportunities for startups to connect with investors, industry and the scientific community.

The cooperation is part of Brandenburg’s new network of six Start-up Centres, funded by more than €17 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF/EFRE) and the State of Brandenburg until 2028. Together, the centres support innovative startups through tailored coaching, access to infrastructure and expert guidance on financing, intellectual property, internationalisation and business development.

By working together, Potsdam Science Park and Flämingo are contributing to a stronger, more connected startup ecosystem—helping innovative companies transform research into market-ready solutions while strengthening Brandenburg as a leading location for innovation and entrepreneurship.
