Potsdam Science Park grows – BioTech company biocyc inaugurates new building
Press release by Wirtschaftsförderung Brandenburg (WFBB) | The biotechnology company biocyc today inaugurated a new office and laboratory building in Potsdam-Golm. The investment of almost 6.5 million euros will create 14 new jobs. Currently, biocyc already has 20 employees at the Golm site.
The state has actively supported the company’s development for many years through the Brandenburg Economic Development Corporation (WFBB) and the development bank ILB. The construction of the new building is being financed with funds from the Joint Task Regional Economic Structure (GRW).
“biocyc GmbH & Co KG is a prime example of the high quality of SMEs in the state of Brandenburg. By expanding its site, the company is strengthening its competitiveness and thus its own market position. Everyone benefits from this – the company, the employees and Brandenburg as a business location. I am delighted that we were able to provide a grant of 1.65 million euros from GRW funds for the construction of the new plant in Golm. This will create 14 new jobs. This is a positive signal,” said Economics Minister Prof. Dr.-Ing. Jörg Steinbach on the occasion of the inauguration.

“The healthcare industry is one of Brandenburg’s strong growth sectors. The company biocyc is one of its growth drivers. Today’s inauguration of the company building in the Potsdam Science Park Golm opens a new chapter in the company’s success story. We look forward to further cooperation,” emphasizes WFBB Managing Director Dr. Steffen Kammradt.
“We have been supporting biocyc Biotechnologie GmbH & Co. KG for years with our funding offers in the areas of employment, innovation and investment. We are pleased to be able to accompany the company in its continuous development – an example of the well-functioning cooperation with Brandenburg companies,” says ILB board member Kerstin Jöntgen.
“Since its foundation, biocyc has been associated with the state of Brandenburg and has found a home in the GO:IN innovation center in recent years,” say shareholders Barbara and Jürgen Gorczyza, “so we are all the more pleased that we can realize our long-standing plans for our own office and laboratory building here in the Potsdam Science Park.” For the founders of the family business, the new building is also the final step in handing over the company to their son Alexander, who was also responsible for the design of the building.
“biocyc Biotechnlogie GmbH & Co KG is diversified with the two business areas of peptide chemistry and antibodies for cancer diagnostics, but in recent years the spatial capacities were at their limit,” says biocyc Managing Director Alexander Gorczyza, “with the new building we can realize our dream and were able to plan the building tailor-made.” With one office floor and two laboratory floors, the equipment and organization can be targeted to the business areas and tasks, and in future there will be short distances within the company.
