Safe Water for Berlin and Brandenburg: Europe-Wide Laboratory Group Agrolab Builds in Potsdam Science Park

Joint press release by Standortmanagement Golm GmbH, AGROLAB Potsdam GmbH and ProPotsdam GmbH | The AGROLAB GROUP is constructing a laboratory building with state-of-the-art infrastructure for water analysis at Potsdam Science Park. The laboratory group, which has more than 30 branches across Europe, is expanding its range of quality analyses for drinking water, groundwater, wastewater and surface water, among other things, for Berlin and Brandenburg.

»With the new building in the Potsdam district Golm, AGROLAB is taking an important step towards long-term growth at its Potsdam site and strengthening its position in the region,« says Jörg Müller, Managing Director of AGROLAB Potsdam GmbH.

The existing water laboratory in the Potsdam district Teltower Vorstadt will be significantly expanded with the move to Potsdam-Golm. At the new location on the Technology Campus, AGROLAB will construct a building with an area of 2,500 square metres, creating additional capacity for innovative analysis techniques.

»We will invest in the latest technology at Potsdam Science Park in order to meet the sharp rise in demand for PFAS and other analyses on an even larger scale than before,« says Müller. PFAS are organic compounds known as »forever chemicals« that are virtually non-degradable in the environment and pose health risks. The European Drinking Water Directive stipulates strict limit values.

A Favourable Environment for a Growing Company

The new AGROLAB laboratory building will be constructed on the 10-hectare Technology Campus. In this part of Potsdam Science Park, the municipal company ProPotsdam GmbH has designated areas for technology and research-oriented companies and start-ups, which are sold to selected companies through a concept award procedure.

»We appreciate the campus concept at Potsdam Science Park,« says Jörg Müller. »You have the university, non-university research institutes and other companies in a very small area, which can offer many advantages.« The University of Potsdam, with its young scientists, is particularly important for the growing company. The new building will create additional, future-proof jobs.

The AGROLAB GROUP purchased the plot of land on the Technology Campus at the beginning of November 2025 and intends to start construction soon. »We hope that we can expedite the building application process and move in within two years at the latest,« says Müller.

Technology Campus: A Successful Model for Attracting Companies

»The establishment of AGROLAB on the Technology Campus of the Potsdam Science Park is a great success and underlines the attractiveness of Potsdam as a location,« says Agnes von Matuschka, Managing Director of Standortmanagement Golm GmbH. »We are committed to providing the company with the best possible support through our services and local network.«

With its purchase at the Golm Technology Campus, AGROLAB has secured one of the last available plots of land in Potsdam Science Park. More than two-thirds of the space has already been reserved or sold, with individual building plots between 3,000 and 20,000 square metres currently still available.

»We are delighted to have found another research-oriented partner for the Technology Campus Golm in AGROLAB. With the construction of its new building, the laboratory group will contribute to making the location even more attractive for companies in the fields of life sciences, materials science and information technology in the future,« says Bert Nicke, Managing Director of ProPotsdam GmbH, which markets the space on the Technology Campus.

All signs point to growth at Potsdam Science Park: the University of Potsdam is currently building a teacher training centre on the Technology Campus, and a vaccine production facility for RIPAC-Labor GmbH and an observatory for DiGOS Potsdam GmbH to monitor space debris are also being built here. In 2027, iQ space Potsdam with 10,000 square metres and Quadratum Potsdam with around 20,000 square metres are also set to open for flexible laboratories and offices for rent.

A Reliable Partner for a Safe Environment

AGROLAB has been a reliable partner for analytical services for almost 40 years. The owner-managed laboratory group employs more than 2,600 people at over 30 locations – from Denmark to Spain. In addition to providing water quality analysis for large and private customers, which is the focus of the Potsdam branch, the AGROLAB GROUP also offers environmental analysis, agricultural analysis, feed analysis, food analysis and mineral oil analysis. AGROLAB has developed a powerful online portal for the efficient processing of analysis orders.

In Potsdam, AGROLAB’s range of services includes state-of-the-art PFAS analysis methods, N₂/argon measurements to determine degraded nitrate in groundwater, and all standard chemical, physical and microbiological parameters to ensure water quality. As an accredited laboratory, AGROLAB monitors compliance with legal regulations on water quality, for example for bathing lakes, tap water and industrial wastewater.

Cutting-Edge Research Meets Business: Potsdam Science Park Continues to Grow

Potsdam Science Park is one of the largest science locations for life sciences and biotechnology in the Berlin-Brandenburg capital region. Here, international cutting-edge research, university education and research-oriented companies come together to form an excellent community.

Two Fraunhofer Institutes, the Fraunhofer Competence Centre, three Max Planck Institutes, the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences and the Faculty of Human Sciences at the University of Potsdam, the Faculty of Health Sciences Brandenburg, the GO:IN and GO:IN 2 innovation centres, 48 start-ups and companies, and the Brandenburg State Archives are located on an area of 50 hectares. With its 10-hectare Technology Campus, ProPotsdam offers building land for new companies to settle in this innovation location.
