Start-up Offensive Brandenburg: »Plenty of good reasons for Brandenburg«

WFBB Press Release | New communication campaign puts Brandenburg in the spotlight as a start-up region. Brandenburg is the strongest federal state in eastern Germany when it comes to business start-ups and is developing into a major engine of innovation, especially in forward-looking technology sectors. According to the latest surveys by the German Startups Association (Bundesverband Deutsche Startups), Potsdam – the state capital of Brandenburg – ranks 3rd among the “Top 10 cities by number of active startups”.

On the other side, around 47,000 companies are ready to be handed over to the next generation of entrepreneurs in the coming years. Many of them have not yet arranged for succession. Brandenburg is therefore sending a strong signal for business start-ups and successions: As part of the Brandenburg Start-up Offensive, the Ministry of Economic Affairs is launching a new campaign this month.

“Brandenburg has already been a dynamic start-up region for many years. But we need to motivate even more people to become entrepreneurs – especially in light of the generational change that many companies will undergo in the coming years. We need many more (young) people with innovative ideas and entrepreneurial courage to keep our economy competitive. That’s why, with this campaign, we’re positioning Brandenburg as an attractive location for founders,” said Minister of Economic Affairs Daniel Keller today at a press briefing in Potsdam.

On the occasion of the campaign launch, the Managing Director of the Economic Development Agency Brandenburg (WFBB), Sebastian Saule, said: “The state of Brandenburg has a vibrant start-up and entrepreneurial scene. It shapes the economic structure in many industries in a unique way. This positive development is supported by the state with comprehensive consulting and funding programs, and we are happy to advise founders on these. The campaign will provide an additional boost to raise awareness of the many good reasons for Brandenburg beyond the region itself. We are pleased to implement it on behalf of the Ministry of Economic Affairs.”

Real success stories as the heart of the campaign

At the heart of the campaign are “plenty of good reasons” based on authentic experiences of successful (young) entrepreneurs from Brandenburg. These real success stories introduce inspiring role models who have already taken the step into self-employment – whether as a start-up, in crafts, in services, or through business succession. In the campaign, they share their motivations and express their personal location advantages in individual keywords: from strong networks and attractive funding opportunities to high quality of life. In this way, Brandenburg is presented as a start-up location in an authentic and tangible way.

Cross-media visibility throughout the year

The campaign will be implemented cross-medially and run throughout the entire year. From traditional print media to digital platforms, social media, and events – a wide range of channels will be used to increase the visibility of Brandenburg as a start-up location. This enables broad and target group-oriented outreach to potential founders and business successors.

Support for prospective founders and successors

The campaign not only provides information about the many advantages of Brandenburg as a start-up location but also draws specific attention to existing, free advisory services implemented across the state and tailored to specific target groups under the ESF-funded support program “Gründen in Brandenburg (GiB)”.

A strong network of regional and national partners also offers founders valuable support in financing, funding, business consulting, industry networking, and entrepreneurial know-how.

Brandenburg as a dynamic start-up region

The new communication campaign is another milestone in the implementation of the “Brandenburg Start-up Offensive”. This initiative aims to optimize the conditions for business start-ups and successions in the state of Brandenburg. In addition to raising awareness and motivation for entrepreneurship, targeted measures are also used to promote start-ups, business foundations, and business successions.

Minister Keller emphasized: “With the Start-up Offensive, Brandenburg’s innovative strength is being promoted across the region, the conditions for business successions are being improved, idea development and technology transfer from research institutions are being supported, and thus the foundations for a sustainable, crisis-resistant, and diverse SME sector of tomorrow are being created.” The Minister pointed out that Brandenburg offers a wide range of tailored funding and support opportunities for business start-ups and successions.
