Topping-out ceremony for the GO:IN 2 in Golm

Press release of the City of Potsdam | On Tuesday, June 9, 2020, Mayor Mike Schubert, together with the Managing Director of TGZP GmbH, Steffen Schramm, took part in the topping-out ceremony of the GO:IN 2 office and laboratory building in the Potsdam Science Park. In times of the Corona pandemic, public celebrations were deliberately avoided despite the current relaxations.

“The topping-out ceremony is a good custom and should not be withheld from the many builders and craftsmen. Therefore, in these special Corona times, we have decided to hold our topping-out ceremony on a small scale without guests. We were all the more pleased that the Lord Mayor took the time to address a greeting and thank the actors here on the construction site,” said Steffen Schramm.

“The construction of GO:IN 2 is another important step in the development of the Potsdam Science Park. On the one hand, I am pleased that we have now also been able to attract private investors for commercial construction projects in Golm. With another start-up and commercial centre in public hands, we can offer the urgently needed small-scale and flexible office and laboratory space and thus complement each other excellently with the private providers,” said Mayor Mike Schubert at the topping-out ceremony. “I would like to thank all those involved in the construction that despite the adverse circumstances, the schedule for the construction project could be largely adhered to and wish all the best for the rest of the process,” the mayor continued.

The foundation stone for GO:IN 2 was laid on 28 November 2019. Due to challenges on the subsoil, the resulting need for special civil engineering logistics and an extended lowering of the groundwater level in order to achieve the required reduction target, the construction period was extended by approx. seven weeks. Completion is scheduled for the second quarter of 2021. Then, on 6,300 m² of gross floor area, innovative scientific companies will have small-scale office and laboratory space at their disposal.

The calculated construction costs will amount to around 15 million euros. The state capital of Potsdam is investing a third of this in this project. The remaining sum will be financed by borrowing from TGZP GmbH. The state capital of Potsdam expects not only a financial, but also a structural dividend for the location and the entire region.

The Potsdam Science Park is already the largest science location not only in Potsdam, but in the entire state of Brandenburg. The institutes and facilities located here conduct top-level international research and excellent teaching. In recent years, great things have been achieved in the scientific profiling of the location. Important projects were initiated and companies and private investors were won over for a subsequent and building economic development. These include, for example, the realignment of the Golm site management together with the University of Potsdam, the creation of commercial settlement areas within the framework of the Technology Campus, the realization of the H-Lab by Projektimmobilien GmbH, and the scientific expansion projects of the University of Potsdam and the Max Planck Institutes. With the Neue Golmer Mitte, a new and urban centre is also to be created in the medium term in order to further increase the attractiveness of the location, also in terms of the quality of life, work and stay for all users.
