Tumor-on-a-Chip Technology – CanChip opens Lab in the Potsdam Science Park

CanChip has joined the growing life sciences ecosystem of the Potsdam Science Park. CanChip GmbH is an innovative service provider in cancer research that has emerged from the scientific community in Potsdam. Specialising in the development and provision of Tumor-on-a-Chip technologies, the start-up aims to improve the efficiency of finding new cancer drugs and accelerate the drug development process. CanChip seeks to make cancer treatment more precise and patient-specific through Tumor-on-a-Chip technology.

“We want to highlight the opportunities our technology offers in terms of the efficiency and accuracy of cancer research, diagnostics, and therapy,” says company founder Ms. Ghazaleh Madani. The goal is also to strengthen collaboration with academic and industry partners to initiate joint research and development projects.

The platform developed by CanChip, based on Tumor-on-a-Chip technology, offers significant advantages over traditional research methods such as conventional 2D cell cultures and animal testing. “It not only enables more precise screening of drug candidates but also contributes to the development of treatment strategies in personalised medicine,” says Ms. Madani. Treatment approaches are tailored to the specific genetic and molecular profiles of individual patients’ tumours. “This approach can increase the success rates of cancer treatments and significantly reduce the side effects of chemotherapy,” Ms. Madani continues.

Tumor-on-a-Chip technology replicates complex tumour biological processes in a controlled microenvironment. This makes it possible to test the efficacy of new drugs under conditions that closely resemble human tumours. Researchers and developers can identify potentially effective drugs more precisely and quickly, leading to accelerated development of cancer drugs and cost savings. Higher efficacy and fewer side effects can improve patients’ quality of life and reduce their burden from lengthy clinical trials.

Moreover, Tumor-on-a-Chip technology makes a significant contribution to animal welfare by significantly reducing the number of required animal tests in cancer research. “This is not only an ethical advance but also improves the transferability of research results to humans, as human cell environments can be directly studied,” says Ms. Madani.

Inspired by her personal story, CamChip founder Ghazaleh Madani decided early in her studies, due to a cancer case in her family, to dedicate her scientific career to cancer research. Ms. Madani’s vision is to accelerate the development of targeted, more effective cancer treatments through Tumor-on-a-Chip technology and improve the quality of life for patients worldwide.
