Woidke receives Finnish ambassador for inaugural visit to Potsdam Science Park

Press release of the State Chancellery of Brandenburg | On Wednesday, 20 July 2022, Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke will receive Finnish Ambassador Anne Sipiläinen for her inaugural visit to the state of Brandenburg. Together they visit the Potsdam Science Park in Golm.

Prime Minister Woidke and Ambassador Sipiläinen will exchange views on current issues of energy supply and Finland’s planned accession to NATO, among other things. Afterwards, Prof. Markus Antonietti, Director of the Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces, will give a tour of the research facility.

Finland maintains close bilateral relations with Brandenburg in political, cultural and scientific fields. There are 12 school partnerships and numerous collaborations between universities as well as the Hasso Plattner Institute and the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. The cities of Potsdam and Frankfurt (Oder) maintain municipal partnerships with the Finnish cities of Jyväskylä and Vantaa. Wildau’s partner municipality is Salla in Lapland.

Background on the Potsdam Science Park

Around 13,000 people from 80 nations research, work and study at the Potsdam Science Park, including in the fields of biotechnology, medical technology, optics, geosciences, astrophysics and gravitational physics. The cooperation with Finnish science and business locations made a significant contribution to the development of the location and the establishment of a professional location management.

The Max Planck Institute of Colloids and Interfaces in the Potsdam Science Park cooperates with Finnish partners in the research fields of biorefinery, 3D printing, cellulose.
