Information event of the state capital on the future quarter Golm-Nord
Numerous residents from Golm and other interested parties took part in the information event “Zukunftsquartier Golm-Nord” organized by the state capital of Potsdam at the Fraunhofer Conference Center on 31 January 2024. Together with ProPotsdam GmbH and Urbanizers, employees of the state capital provided information on the current planning status.
Pioneering urban quarter
A new and forward-looking urban quarter is to be built north of the Potsdam Science Park. Housing, social and cultural infrastructure as well as play and sports fields for 3,270 new residents are to be built here. So-called “mobility hubs” will ensure that the new district remains as car-free as possible. These are parking garages and stations where residents and employees can not only park, but also switch to alternative mobility options.
Dynamically growing research and business location
A key aspect of the Zukunftsquartier will also be the expansion of the dynamically growing research and business location Potsdam Science Park. Designated areas for further scientific institutes and companies are planned in the planning area. The new areas are adjacent to the existing 50-hectare site of the Potsdam innovation location. Today, 12,500 people are already researching, studying and working in the Potsdam Science Park. In the future, a further 4,200 jobs are to be created here.
School center for Golm-North
The construction of a school center in Golm-Nord is to be brought forward. Once the land to the north of the Technology Campus has been acquired and the necessary planning permission has been obtained, the secondary school with primary school could be built from 2029 and open in 2032.
The integrated overall development of the Golm 2040 framework plan aims to develop Golm into an innovative urban quarter. To this end, the various parts of Golm – Old Golm, New Golm, the university campus of the University of Potsdam, the research institutes, the Technology Campus and the new district in the north – are to be better connected in terms of both urban development and functionality. A central project for this is the creation of a new, functional and identity-creating center for Golm, the planning for which will begin in 2024.
